Two Montana Tech Students Receive Prestigious MGS Scholarships

carlos.jpgMontana Technological University is excited to announce that two graduate students are the sole recipients of the Montana Geological Society’s 2020 MSG Scholarship.

The winners, Casey Penney and Carlos Montejo, are both pursuing master’s degrees at Montana Tech. Penney’s master’s thesis in the Department of Mining Engineering is entitled “Crushed Mine Waste as Aggregate in Shotcrete Mix Designs.” His advisor is Dr. Paul Conrad. Carlos Montejo is working on “Geological Mapping of Portions of the McGregor Peak, Marion, Murr Peak, and Hubbart Reservoir, 7.5’ Quadrangles, Flathead County, Montana, with emphasis on Quaternary Units.” He is working with Dr. Larry Smith in the Department of Geological Engineering.

About the MGS Scholarship
MGS promotes interest and research in geology and allied sciences by providing financial assistance for up to two student dissertation, thesis, or senior projects involving Montana geology and by providing a venue for students to present their work to geology professionals in Montana.
